Obituary: Joseph Wayne Rose

General News

Joseph Wayne Rose, 77, of Northport, AL passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Joseph Wayne Rose
(02/24/1943 – 02/08/2021)

For over 60 sixty years, Wayne owned and operated Rose Lumber Company, a small lumber mill in the heart of Northport. He also served in Northport government for over 20 years. He had a deep love for his community. He could tell you every street in Northport and the story behind its name. Wayne believed a handshake stood for someone’s word and the only work to be done was hard work. If you ever needed him, he could be found at his sawmill riding a loader or talking shop with a friend that had stopped by. Everyone felt at home down at the mill and the secrets shared there, stayed there. He also had a love for the Romulus Community, a community in which his mother’s side of the family was from. He enjoyed taking rides to this area and in his later years attended Romulus United Methodist Church. Wayne was blessed with a multitude of grandchildren. The grandchildren loved to hitch a ride with him on a piece of equipment or chase him down to go for a loop on the lawnmower as he cut the grass. He loved each and everyone of them and recognized these faces and voices until the very end. As the saying goes, there is nothing like the love a grandparent has for a grandchild. When he spent time with the grandchildren, a softer side of him was seen. Wayne’s legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren and in the community of Northport.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Elijah Rose, mother, Mattie Hartin Rose, sisters, Jean Rose Shirley and Joan Rose Nicholson.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Marcum Rose, Northport, Alabama, his daughters, Dallas Rose Mueller (Don) of Chattanooga, TN, and Whitney Rose DuBose (Eric) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, his son, Joseph William Rose (Kim) of Berry, Alabama, and his grandchildren, April Phillips, Lily Grace Williams, Luke Mueller, Dianna Mueller, Josie DuBose, Eli Rose, Josiah DuBose, Anna Harper Mueller, Stella Rose, Jonah DuBose, Abner Rose, Jordan DuBose, and Norma Jean Rose Gene and Denise Moore, sister-in-law and brother-in-law and nephew, Cody Moore.
