Melvin Faircloth, 87 of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021.

Funeral service will be on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Potosi Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Potosi Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Melvin Kennon Faircloth was born on May 16, 1934 in Grassbur, Texas, just outside of Abilene, to Odie and Mattie Faircloth. A life-long resident of Abilene, Melvin helped shaped the community one board at a time. He married Virginia Johnson on August 27, 1952. In 1957, Melvin started working for City Lumber and, following a fire in 1969, he purchased the business and made it what it is today. He was respected in the business community and in the lumber industry, earning the distinction of Lumberman of the Year in 2010. He served in the Eula Lions Club and was their Charter President and was the President of the Ovalo Ex’s. He was a deacon at the Potosi Baptist Church as well as the Church treasurer for many years.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harvie and Aaron Faircloth, sister Juanita Faircloth and sister-in-law Wilma Faircloth. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia; sons Ken Faircloth and wife Becky, Scotty Faircloth and wife Tina and Auddie Faircloth and wife Mickey, all of Abilene; daughter Melody Faircloth of Abilene; brother Odie Ray Faircloth of Clyde and sister-in-law Nita Heinz of Levelland, Texas; plus 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
