Obituary: Mark Edward Babcock

Obituary

Mark Edward Babcock, 62, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

He was born January 18, 1959, in Greenville, Pennsylvania to Earl and Norma Babcock. Mark always enjoyed being outdoors and passed this love on to his children. He joined the Boy Scouts at age eight and continued as an active member of Troop 74 for the next ten years, earning over 20 merit badges. After completing all requirements at age 14, he was awarded the Eagle Scout badge. Even in his youth, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in forestry, leading Mark to Penn State University, where he was awarded his Associate of Science in Forestry.

Following his graduation, Mark worked in South Dakota and next moved to Huntington, WV to work in timberland management with Western Pocahontas Properties, L.P. In 1991, Mark began working with New River Hardwoods and its predecessors and was involved in all aspects of the company’s growth as the V.P. of Sales and Marketing.

Mark was a loving and supportive husband, father, son, uncle, and friend. He was one of the most dependable and hard-working individuals you would ever meet. His presence and smile will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. What has been lost on earth, has been gained by the Lord in heaven.

In addition to his grandparents, he is preceded in death by his father, Earl Babcock, and several relatives. He is survived by his mother, Norma; his loving wife of 39 years, Deborah; daughter, Rebecca; son, Samuel, and wife Savanna; nieces and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in Mark’s name to the local Boy Scouts at Fayetteville Troop 179 (273 Timber Ridge Road, Fayetteville, WV 25840).

Friends may gather with the family Saturday, October 22, 2022, 12pm, at Faith Baptist Church, Beckley, WV. A service will be held to celebrate the life of Mark with Pastor Larry Halsey officiating. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralhome.com.
