Charles “Charlie” Rex Cranford, 81, of Troy passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at South Albemarle Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Danny Laws. Burial will follow at Ophir United Methodist Church in Troy. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, face masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.

Born in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Otho Vernon and Eliza Lucille Cranford. Charlie was the owner/operator of Central Lumber and Supply for many, many years. He was former president of the Troy Jaycees, past president of the West Montgomery Boosters Club, and sponsored Little League Ball Teams as well. He was awarded the C.V. Richardson Memorial that was presented by the Star Halcyon Club in appreciation of the many years of service at the Star Fiddler’s Convention. Charlie was a very generous and good-hearted person. He helped many people and always put others before himself. Charlie dedicated his life to his business, and he was always the first to get there in the morning and the last to leave at the end of the day.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joyce Vanhoy Cranford of the home; son, Kent Cranford (Sharon) of Star; daughter, Kelly Pendergraph (Jim) of Lexington; grandsons, Zachary Smith, Tanner Smith, Ethan Cranford, and Seth Cranford; great-grandchild, Paisley Smith; and sisters, Louise Morris (Jack) of Eldorado and Betty Ann Saunders of Ophir.
