Obituary: Raymond Earl Lloyd, Sr.

Raymond Earl Lloyd, Sr. 72, of Monroe, VA, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 17, 2022. He was the loving husband of Martha C. Lloyd for 54 years.

Raymond was born Friday, February 18, 1949, in Lynchburg, VA a son of the late Harlan Lloyd and Hilda C. Lloyd. Raymond worked in the sawmill and logging industry for many years. He was the co-owner of Lloyd Brothers Lumber Inc. in Pleasant View for many years. He was also a partner in Shenandoah Hardwood Lumber in Buena Vista, VA and Meadow River Hardwood Lumber in Rainelle, WV. He was an avid fisherman and gardener (always giving his garden away.) He fished bass tournaments all over the eastern United States. He finished 8th out of the 50 top fishermen in the United States in 1993 in the Redman All American in Tuscaloosa, AL.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Ray Lloyd, Jr. (Lisa) and Jody Lloyd (Andrea); grandchildren, Promise (Clay) Campbell, Angel Lloyd (Dillon Inscoe), Elijah (Tamika) Lloyd, Dakota Lloyd (Destiny Rowland), Jacob Lloyd, Maegan Lloyd, Kayleigh Lloyd, and Joshua Lloyd; great grandchildren, Laken Campbell, Adolyn Campbell and Everleigh Lloyd; siblings, Harold “Tommy” Lloyd (Barbara) and Kathy Martin; a brother-in-law, Dorman Jones and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Lloyd; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a special niece, Jenna and her husband, Ron Fisher and his best friend Bobby “Big Stogie” Staton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Jones and a brother, Joseph Lloyd Sr.

The family will receive friends for a visitation and viewing at 1:00 p.m. and celebration of Raymond’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. January 23 at Tharp Funeral Home on Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg, VA. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Farm Family Cemetery in Pleasant View, VA.
