For years, many metropolitan areas in Europe have been facing strong population growth and an increasing demand for affordable housing. At the same time, the international building industry feels pressure to reduce its considerable share of energy and resource consumption as well as its CO2 emissions. There is an urgent need for innovative solutions to reconcile these seemingly contradictory objectives. The new cooperation between the binderholz Group and Austria’s third largest construction group SWIETELSKY, is one such solution.

Individually plannable system construction with industrial prefabrication

After years of development work, binderholz has brought an individually plannable system building solution made of industrially prefabricated solid wood components for multi-storey residential construction called b_solution onto the market. Every b_solution building project is converted into a 3D model including all system details and equipment information. Production of the b_solution system components takes place directly from this so-called digital twin on the highly automated production line at the binderholz site in Hallein.

Due to the continuous digitalisation of all processes, b_solution stands for commitment to quality, time and price. The b_solution construction method is fast, dry, clean, low-noise and relies on a sustainable and renewable raw material thanks to the consistent use of solid wood in all components. After all, wood naturally sequesters CO2 and energy, as well as being completely reusable and recyclable.

Cross-material competence from a single source

The realisation of b_solution projects also requires conventional construction services for things like foundations, garage floors, outdoor facilities, access or interior finishing services. This is where Swietelsky AG comes in with its wide range of services as a full-service construction provider, not least as a financially strong and reliable general contractor. SWIETELSKY CEO Karl Weidlinger: “By cooperating with binderholz, we are improving our performance, especially when it comes to standardised and large-volume residential construction. Our own activities in other areas of timber and hybrid construction will remain unaffected and will continue to be offered under the SWIEtimber brand as well as by SWIETELSKY subsidiaries”.

The advantages of the cooperation with binderholz are obvious: A single contact partner who provides comprehensive, competent advice, can offer the entire project from a single source and enables both consortium and general contractor contracts. In this way, industrial production ensures sustainable timber construction at competitive prices, even in multi-storey residential buildings. For the time being, the company intends to concentrate on the Austrian market. However, an expansion of the offer across the borders is also within reach.
