Hermann Lumber Hosts 100th Anniversary Celebration Event

General News

In honor of its 100th anniversary, Hermann Lumber Company hosted a two-day celebration featuring vendor demonstrations, prize giveaways, product discounts, food, games, and live entertainment.

On Friday, representatives from the store’s top brands, including Milwaukee, Rust-Oleum, Sherwin-Williams, and more were on hand to perform demonstrations and provide product education. A grand prize drawing was held for a Char-Broil grill.

On Saturday, a second grand prize drawing awarded a 30-quart Pelican cooler. After regular business hours concluded, an afternoon celebration kicked off, which included games for children and adults, such as bounce houses and ax throwing; food and drink vendors; and other entertainment. A live band, Pilot Groove, also performed.

Hermann Lumber commemorated the business’s inaugural year of 1922 and its 100th anniversary throughout the celebration with number-themed giveaways and discounts. Three uncirculated 1922 Peace silver dollars were given away, and in-store drawings were held every 100 minutes. Five-gallon buckets were given to each of the first 100 customers on Friday, who received a 22% discount on everything they could fit inside it. Additionally, a 22% discount will be offered on all greeting cards, as well as rentals of $100 or more.

On both days, discounts were available on select merchandise, and Hermann Lumber introduced their Best Rewards customer loyalty program with a free anniversary gift for everyone who signed up.

“We were overwhelmed by the turnout,” said third-generation Owner and President Dan Baumstark. “We greatly appreciate everyone who came out to show their support for Hermann Lumber and celebrate with us. Our family looks forward to many more years of serving this great community.”

The family business dates back to 1922 when Albert Baumstark was offered a management position by the company’s new owner. By the early 1970s, he had acquired a majority of the stock in the business and his son Charles bought the rest. In 1972, Charles’ son Dan bought into the business at age 18. Baumstark and his three daughters Rachel Korman, Chelsea Rohlfing, and Megan Stiers, continue to run Hermann Lumber today.

“We believe the business has achieved long-standing success through our close family ties and our ability to work together so well,” said Vice President Megan Stiers. “It’s a positive environment, and our employees have become an extension of the Baumstark family.”

Long-term employees are a hallmark of Hermann Lumber, with managers who have been with the business for more than 50 years.

Over the years, the store has expanded into full lines of building materials, hardware, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, paint, floor coverings, kitchen and bath cabinetry, and much more. To meet the growing demand, the family will commemorate the store’s first century in business by completing a store remodel that will extend Hermann Lumber’s footprint by nearly 20% featuring even more product options, refreshed signage, brighter lighting, and a more efficient store layout.

Hermann Lumber is located at 603 Market Street in Hermann and is open Monday through Friday from 7 am–5:30 pm and Saturday from 7 am–2 pm. For more information, visit hermannlumber.com.
