Madison’s Reporter: Lumber Sales Improve as Builders Look Toward Spring

Uncertainty prevailed in much of the North American lumber market; field inventories were lean in every lumber product category.

In the week ending February 16, 2024, the price of Western S-P-F 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$442 mfbm, said forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter. This is flat from the previous week when it was $442.

That week’s price is down by -$3, or -1%, from one month ago when it was US$445 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$470 mfbm, that week’s price is down by -$28, or -6%. Compared to two years’ ago when it was $1,230, this week’s price is down by -$788, or -64%.

In the week ending February 16, 2024, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$403 mfbm. This is up by +$5, or +1%,  from the previous week when it was US$398 mfbm.

That week’s price is down by -$45, or -10%, from one month ago when it was US$448 mfbm.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$520 mfbm, that week’s price is down by -$117, or -23%. Compared to two years’ ago when it was $1,330, that week’s price is down by -$928, or -70%.
