Report: Southern Vermont Lumber Mill Closes Amid Industry Challenges
According to local news reports, Mill River Lumber, Ltd. (HQ: North Clarendon, VT), will be indefinitely closing their sawmill in North Clarendon, Vermont.
WCAX reports that warm winters and wet summers have hampered logging operations. The mill’s owners and local industry experts note the ongoing decline in the lumber sector, likening it to the shrinking number of dairy farms.
It was noted that when contacted, “workers at Mill River Lumber were only able to confirm the mill is in the process of closing but did not give a reason why or an exact date.”
