Madison’s Reporter: Typical Seasonal Drop in Lumber Sales

The imminent softwood lumber duty hikes on Canadian shipments to the US frustrated and confused players.

In the week ending July 25, 2025, the price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$527 mfbm. This was up +$27, or +5%,from the previous week when it was $500, said weekly forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter.

That week’s price was up +$59, or +13%, from one month ago when it was $468.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$330 mfbm, that week’s price was up +$197, or +60%. Compared to two years ago when it was $458, that week’s price was up +$69 or +15%.

In the week ending July 25, 2025, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$390 mfbm. This was up +$5, or +1%, from the previous week when it was $385.

That week’s price was down -$31, or -7%, from one month ago when it was $421.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was $350, that week’s price was up +$40, or +11%. Compared to two years ago when it was $425, that week’s price was down -$35, or -8%.
