Introducing DensDeck® ProFast™ Prime Roof Board: Georgia-Pacific’s Next Generation of Innovative Building Products

In response to the ever-changing demands of the construction industry, Georgia-Pacific’s focus on innovation helps create new products that keep pace with customer needs and expectations. With nearly 100 years of experience manufacturing industry-leading commercial and residential building products, Georgia-Pacific’s latest product, DensDeck® ProFast™ Prime Roof Board, was introduced in March 2025 and is now commercially available. DensDeck® ProFast™ Prime Roof Board is a 3/8” gypsum-based cover board engineered to enhance roofing installation efficiency, providing a superior solution for efficient, cost-effective commercial low slope roof systems.
“Our roofing contractors made it clear they need roofing solutions that improve job site efficiency without compromising quality,” said Greg Hudson, commercial director, Dens®. “DensDeck® ProFast™ Prime Roof Board answers that call by significantly reducing fastener requirements and making installation lighter and easier. It’s a game changer that helps roofing contractors save time and resources on every project.”
Georgia-Pacific’s building products team collaborates closely with our operations and manufacturing teams to leverage the success of existing products and deliver what customers want. The company’s culture encourages experimentation with new technologies and processes to continually improve product performance.
In testing conducted to date, DensDeck® ProFast™ Prime Roof Boards in single ply (mechanically attached or partially adhered) assemblies have shown a 25-75% reduction in the number of fasteners needed compared to assemblies using 1/2” DensDeck® Prime Roof Board, specifically when the cover board is mechanically attached.* The board is also 20% lighter than the traditional DensDeck® Prime Roof Board, improving handling and installation efficiency on job sites. Its lighter weight can allow for up to 25% more to fit on a truck reducing transportation impacts and streamlining supply chains.
“Our innovation team focused on creating a product that not only improves installation efficiency but also delivers real value through lighter weight and reduced material use,” explained John Chamberlin, senior director, Product Management, Building Products. “This product exemplifies how we turn innovative technology into tangible benefits for the construction segments we serve and measurable savings they can see on their bottom line.”
The Georgia-Pacific Building Products business understands the needs of our customers, and that structures are only as strong as the products that build it, offering a full product suite to support our customer’s building needs. For more information, visit www.buildgp.com.
* The 25%-75% reduction in fasteners is based on FM testing with multiple roofing assemblies using #15 fasteners and 3” metal flat bottom plates.
