Stora Enso has won the Red Dot Design award for the medal boxes for World Ski Championships 2025 in Trondheim, Norway. The award was granted for outstanding design and creative performance in the category of Brands and Communication 2025. The products selected by the Red Dot Jury are aesthetically appealing, functional, sustainable or innovative, but what they all have in common is their outstanding design. Red Dot Award is one of the most significant design competitions in the world.

Stora Enso served as the presenting sponsor of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2025 in Trondheim, Norway. The event organizers aimed to create the most sustainable event of its kind, and Stora Enso contributed to this ambition by sharing its expertise and innovations in packaging. The packaging materials used in the games were fully recyclable and made from renewable cardboard and corrugated board.

The award-winning medal box aligns with sustainability values and comes with high functionality. It is easy to handle, even with gloves, and features braille inscription, making it accessible and intuitive also for visually impaired athletes. The braille feature underscores the event’s commitment to equality and accessibility. The box combines comfort and luxury, with soft touch and high gloss finishes, and the graphic design distinctively incorporates visual elements for the championships to effectively display and protect the medals.

“We are delighted to be recognized by the Red Dot Award for our groundbreaking product design. Our design team is particularly pleased to have succeeded in creating a medal box that beautifully displays the medals while ensuring user-friendliness, and which at the same time supports the Nordic World Ski Championships values. In addition, the medal box reflects Stora Enso’s strong material expertise,” says Timo Anonen, Head of Product Management Packaging Solutions, Stora Enso. “We are proud to see Stora Enso’s medal box design receive this global recognition. Sustainability and inclusivity played an important role in the 2025 World Ski Championships, and these boxes reflect those values in a meaningful way. They remind us that even small choices – like using renewable and recyclable materials or adding accessible features such as braille – can make a real difference,” says Susanna Sieff, FIS Sustainability Director.
