Obituary: Benny Eugene Bowers

Mr. Benny Eugene Bowers, 82, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at High Point Medical Center.

He was born on March 26, 1939 in Statesville, NC to the late Theodore “Theo” Roosevelt Bowers and Myrtle Lindley Bowers. Benny worked many years as an outside sales-rep for Cox Wood Preserving Company and later on as owner and operator of Bowers Lumber Company in Thomasville. He was a former City Council member for the City of Thomasville and in his spare time he loved spending time with his grandchildren and going on fishing trips to the coast. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his niece, Carol Jean Hughes.

Surviving are his loving wife of almost 63 years, Ruby Craven Bowers of the home; one daughter, Sherri Bowers Tippett and husband Dave of Thomasville, two sons, Mike Bowers and wife Kim, and Scott Bowers, both of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Corey Bowers of Asheville, Hannah Bowers of Thomasville, and Kylie Bowers of Thomasville; one sister, Mary “Flexie” Bowers Hughes of Thomasville; one nephew, Eric Hughes of Thomasville; and one niece, Cheryl Hughes Andreasen of Madison, Wisconsin.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the JC Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Brian Matherlee officiating. Burial will follow the service at Calvary UCC church cemetery in Thomasville.
