Business this week was affected by Victoria Day in Canada and the upcoming Memorial Day long weekend in the US. Demand for Spruce-Pine-Fir showed promise, while sales of Southern Yellow Pine looked rough by comparison.

In the week ending May 23, 2025, the price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$444 mfbm. This is flat from the previous week when it was $444, said weekly forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter.

That week’s price is down -$54, or -11%, from one month ago when it was $498.

Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$383 mfbm, that week’s price was up +$61, or +16%. Compared to two years ago when it was $360, that week’s price was up +$84 or +23%.

In the week ending May 23, 2025, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$490 mfbm. This is down -$25, or -5%, from the previous week when it was $515.

That week’s price is down -$23, or -4%, from one month ago when it was $513.
