Michael Scott Hoover, 74, of Broadway, VA passed away December 26, 2023, at Woodland Park Burkholder House of VMRC.

He was born April 14, 1949, in Harrisonburg to the late Warren Eugene and Bonnie Neff Hoover.

The most important relationship in his life was with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He started every day by reading his bible. He was a former board member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Mike was the president and procurement manager of Neff Lumber Mills.  He was the chairman of Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturing, Inc., a member of Virginia and West Virginia Forestry Association, and a member of the National Hardwood Lumber Association. Mike was a lifetime member of Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Chief, and was fireman of the year. He served as president of Rockingham County Firefighters Association, and played an instrumental role in implementing the 911 system, and Bergton Station #55. He was a former member of Broadway Rescue Squad.

Mike loved playing golf and was a member at Spotswood Country Club. In July, 1990 he made two holes in one in the same day at Old White Course and Lakeside Course at Greenbrier Resort. He loved being involved in his sons sports, coaching Little League baseball for Matthew and Mark.

On October 11, 1975, he married the former Anne Hiner, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Matthew Scott Hoover of Broadway, Mark Warren Hoover and wife Tiffany of Moseley, VA; grandchildren, Haley Dawn Hoover, Avery Grace Hoover, Peyton Rene’ Hoover, Sawyer Kent Hoover; two brothers, Eric Hoover and wife Brenda of Broadway, Christopher Hoover and wife Karen of Broadway; a number of nieces and nephews.

Pastors Barb Shaw and Bill Fitchett will conduct a funeral service 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Sunset Drive United Methodist Church in Broadway.  Burial will follow at Linville Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

The casket will be closed.
